Overview

Rudugaira peak (5819m/19086 ft), situated in Rudu Valley, Gangotri region of Garhwal Himalayas. This expedition is a perfect one for experienced trekkers who wants to try something challenging and wanted to push themselves to a new altitude. This expedition is not very technical as that of other mountaineering expedition hence is perfect for the non-certified climbers. This expedition offers you a beautiful ride from Dehradun to Gangotri (famous Pilgrimage), some very scenic campsites, alpine meadows, rich flora n fauna, rivers, waterfalls, and view of some very famous mountains like Gangotri massif, Bhagirathi Massif, Shivling, Sudarshana, Srikantha and many more. You’ll see the famous Ausen’s Col from the summit. This expedition can be taken as the transition of one from trekking to Mountaineering. After the successful completion of this expedition, one can push itself for 6 thousand meters and above expeditions.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 : Dehradun to Gangotri(3110m/10200 ft), Total Distance- 240 kms, 10-11 hours.

Max. Elevation of the day – Gangotri (3110m/10200 ft) Route Detail – Report at Dehradun board into your respective vehicles. Drive through Mussoorie, Uttarkashi, Harshil, and reach Gangotri. After Uttarkashi, one can witness the beauty and greenery of mountains en route to Gangotri, apple orchards in Harshil. The overall journey is long tiring but very beautiful, especially after Uttarkashi. You’ll be traveling along the Bhagirathi river. Reach Gangotri by late evening. Today was a long journey so settle up into your respective hotels, freshen up and have dinner. Overnight stay at the hotels. Highlight of the day – The journey and the destination. Accommodation – Hotel Remark – Keep warm jackets handy after Uttarkashi, one can shopping in Uttarkashi if any item left behind, Jio network is working in Gangotri.

Day 2 : Acclimatization Day

We’ll spend our day in Orientation, expectation setting, and the most important Acclimatization. As we directly came at 3110m/10200 ft. Proper acclimatization is a must. We’ll go towards the Kedar Taal trek route along Kedar Ganga. Attain some height rest there for some time and then came back. In the evening we’ll also conduct some informative sessions on various important topics like Backpacking, LNT, Mountains Manners, AMS, which will be very useful for you for the upcoming trek. You can pack your bag accordingly and left the remaining items at the Hotel itself which you can collect on the last day of your return. Do attend the famous Ganga Aarti in the evening at the temple.

Day 3 : Gangotri(3110m/10200 ft) to Nala camp(3750m/12300 ft) , Total Distance- 7-8 kms, 6-7 hours

Max. Elevation of the day – Nala camp ( 3750m/12300 ft) Route Detail – After breakfast, we’ll start the trek to our first camp. We’ll see Soorya Kund, Gauri Kund and then after a while, we leave the civilization and the network away. we’ll be walking through the beautiful forest. After 1.5 hours of trek, we came across the wooden bridge on Rudra Ganga. After a little step ascends the route is gradual all along the Rudra Ganga till the campsite. Walk through the forests of pine, cedar, birch trees, and rhododendrons with some beautiful flowers and waterfalls on the way. Reach at the camp by late afternoon. Go for an acclimatization walk. You’ll love the beauty of the campsite. Overnight stay in tents. Highlight of the day – The route and the campsite Accommodation – Tents Remark – Try to start early and reach the campsite on time as the weather becomes bad in the afternoon.

Day 4 : Nala camp(3750m/12300 ft) to Rudugaira Base Camp (4298m/14100 ft), Total Distance- 7 kms, 7-8 hours

Max. Elevation of the day – Rudugaira Base Camp (4298m/14100 ft) Route Detail – The day starts with a steep ascent of 30 minutes right after the camp. Then gradual ascent through beautiful meadows. High probability to spot Bharals, Mountain Goat there. The final ascent of 700 m just before the base camp is very steep. are very steep till the campsite. This trail is very windy also. From campsite one can see Rudugaira peak, gangotri peak, jogin peak and Auden’s col. Enjoy the beauty of base camp. Overnight stay in tents. Highlight of the day – The route and the campsite Accommodation – Tents Remark – Do not sleep directly into the tents after reaching the camps as its not good for acclimatization of your body

Day 5 : Acclimatization Day

Today is like a rest day just be outside of your tents. Explore the area. Take a small hike towards Auden’s and Gangotri area. You can also do the load segregation for tomorrow’s load-ferry.

Day 6 : Rudugaira Base Camp (4298m/14100 ft) to Rudugaira Base Camp (4298m/14100 ft) , Duration - 7-8 hours

Max. Elevation of the day – Summit Camp(4939m/16200 ft) Route Detail – Starting from base camp to summit camp for load ferry through a mix of meadows, moraines after reaching the campsite we will dump the load there and will come back to rudugaira base camp. Accommodation – Tent

Day 7 : Rudugaira Base Camp (4298m/14100 ft) to Summit camp (4940m/16200 ft) , Duration - 4/5 Hrs Approx.

Max. Elevation of the day – 16200 feet Route Detail – Retrace the same route to reach the summit camp. Set up camp. Have an early dinner. Have maximum rest as the next day will be very long and tough. Pack your back accordingly so that you get ready in minimum time and start the summit push on time. Highlight of the day – View from the summit camp Accommodation – Tents Remark – Maintain a good amount of nutrition and hydration as this is the highest campsite for the expedition.

Day 8 : Summit camp (4940m/16200 ft) to Point-Rudugaira base camp after Rudugaira summit (5819m/19086 ft), Duration: 14 hours Approx.

Max. Elevation of the day – Rudugaira summit (5819m/19086 ft) Route Detail – We’ll start for the summit around 2-3 am. All route is a combination of rocks, moraines, and snow, steep ascent. You can see so many peaks from the summit such as Srikanth, Gangotri group of peaks, Bhagirathi group of peaks, Shivling, and many more peaks. This will be the most challenging day of the whole expedition due to long walk, altitude, and terrain. Highlight of the day – The summit Accommodation – Tents Remark – Carry enough water and eatables like dry fruits, pack lunch, energy bars. Have a mental preparation of at least 15 hours of walk.

Day 9 : Rudugaira Base camp (14300ft) to Gangotri (3110m/10200 ft) , Total Distance- 14-15 kms, 6-7 hours Approx.

Max. Elevation of the day – 14300 ft Route Detail – same as day 3 and day4 Highlight of the day – The route Accommodation – Hotel Remark – During descend it puts a lot of pressure on knees. Use Trekking poles and knee caps for knee protection as today the whole route is descent till Gangotri.

Day 10 : Buffer Day

Just in case if the weather turns bad we’ll use this reserve day for summit attempt.

Day 11 : Gangotri (3110m/10200 ft) to Uttarkashi , Total Distance- 100 km of drive, 4 hours of drive Approx.

Route Detail – Start your journey after breakfast, reach Uttarkashi by afternoon. Settle up in the respective hotels and have lunch. We’ll spend the evening with a closing ceremony, debriefing, and a special dinner. Highlight of the day – The route Accommodation – Hotel

Day 12 : Drive back to Dehradun

Start your journey in the morning after breakfast and lunch on the way. You’ll be tracing back the same route from which you have come. Reach Dehradun by evening and return to your home by your respective means of transport with lots of sweet memories.
